Vijayawada, July 16 : The State government today targeted its neighbouring counterpart Telangana government and alleged that the acts of the neighbouring state led to a drop in the water levels in Srisailam project.The secretary of irrigation department Shyamala Rao , while addressing media persons in the city, said that the state was welcoming the gazette notifications issued by union water resources ministry. He said that the notification of the central government would come into force from October 14,2021. He said that the notification had also mentioned about the areas, which were not part of the Krishna basin and added that there was a need to amend the names of those areas. He said that they would urge the central government to amend the typos occurred in the issue of Velugonda.Rao made it clear that the Hydel power should be generated when water is released for agriculture sector and added that the water should not be released for the generation of the Hydel power. He also said that the permission of KRMB was necessary to generate power. He alleged that the Telangana state was generating power for the last 45 days doe Srisailam, Sagar and Pulichinthala projects. He said as against the existing capacity of 30.38 tmc of water of the Srisailam project, the Telangana state used 29.82 tmc of water for the power generation. He said that the water levels in the Srisailam project were now just 806.8 feet. He said that they have no scope for drawing water from Pothireddypadu head regulator as it required the presence of the water up to 854 feet in the Srisailam project. He said that the 8 tmc water released from the pulichinthala project was wasted in ocean.He alleged that the Telangana had used a total of 66 tmc of water from the month of June . He said that the CM of the state YS Jaganmohan Reddy had lodged a compliant in the issue with the central government and prime minister of the country. He also said that they had filed a petition on the issue in the Supreme Court of India.
